About this design
Finial ornaments, with a round top that narrows to a long point, are a classic shape among vintage glass decorations. The Teardrop Finial Ornament captures that elegance: a rounded upper body sweeps down into a slender tip, and two ring bands cut across the lower part like the painted rings on old glass finials. A small cap and loop sit on top.
The bands split the solid file into three pieces, which makes it ideal for layering the rings in a contrasting metallic color.

Size and cutting tips
This design passes our cut checks from about 2 inches tall, though the long point looks most elegant from 4 inches up. Keep the three pieces grouped while resizing.
In thin cardstock, the long point can flex; back it with a second layer for strength.
Step by step: a jewel-tone ornament set
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 5 inches tall.
- Cut three copies from 3 mm wood on a laser.
- Paint one plum, one emerald and one sapphire, and let them dry.
- Paint the two ring bands on each in gold with a fine brush, or cut them separately from gold mirror acrylic and glue them in place.
- Seal each ornament with a clear gloss coat for a glass-like finish.
- Hang them together on one branch for a vintage cluster.
Good to know
Finials hang vertically and look longer than they are, so they balance a tree full of round baubles and help fill narrow gaps between branches.
Variations to try
- Cut it from gold mirror acrylic and the rings from black for a dramatic Art Deco look.
- Draw a narrow vertical line of rhinestones down the center of the long point.
- Make a mini version at 2 inches as a pendant on a fine chain.
