About this design
The Candy Cane with Hanging Star turns the cane’s hook into a hanger. A thin string drops from the end of the hook, and a five-point star dangles at the bottom, like an ornament hanging from a branch. The cane, string and star all connect into one piece.
It is whimsical and playful, and the star adds a little sparkle to the classic cane.

Size and cutting tips
The string is thin, so this design needs about 3 inches tall to cut cleanly. Support the string with your finger as you weed vinyl so it does not lift with the waste.
For thick materials, thicken the string in your software with an offset of a few hundredths of an inch, or size the design up.
Step by step: a child’s bedroom decal
- Download the color SVG and size it to 14 inches tall.
- Cut the cane from red removable vinyl, the stripes from white and the star from gold.
- Weed the thin string carefully, supporting it with a finger.
- Apply the cane and string first with transfer tape.
- Add the stripes and then the gold star at the end of the string.
- Burnish and peel the transfer tape slowly, back on itself.
Good to know
The string makes the star look as though it is hanging and swaying, which gives this design a sense of movement that the other canes do not have.
Variations to try
- Swap the star for a small snowflake or heart from our collection, keeping the string attached.
- Write a child’s name on the star in a contrasting vinyl.
- Use silver for the star and string for a wintry version.
A note on scale
Keep the star at least an inch wide on cards so its points stay sharp.
Pairs well with
The Classic Five-Point Christmas Star and the Hanging Star Garland continue the hanging-star theme.
