About this design
The Candy Cane with Holly combines two traditional Christmas motifs. A classic striped cane has a sprig of holly across its shaft: two spiky leaves spreading to either side and a little cluster of three berries in the middle. The holly gives the cane a fuller silhouette and a traditional, old-fashioned feel.
In the color version, the cane, stripes, leaves and berries are four separate layers, so you can cut them in four colors.

Size and cutting tips
This design passes our cut checks from about 1.5 inches tall, though the holly spikes are crisper from 3 inches. For four-color iron-on, press the cane, then the stripes, leaves and berries in order.
Weed the holly leaves carefully at small sizes; lift the waste between the spikes before the rest.
Step by step: a traditional card
- Download the color SVG and size it to 5 inches tall.
- Cut the cane from red cardstock, stripes from white, leaves from green and berries from glossy red.
- Glue the stripes onto the cane.
- Add the holly leaves across the shaft and the berries in the center.
- Mount it on a cream card front at a slight angle.
- Write a traditional greeting inside.
Good to know
The holly adds visual weight to the middle of the cane, which balances the hook at the top and makes the design feel complete on its own.
Variations to try
- Make the berries gold for a glam card.
- Use the holly sprig alone as a small accent on tags.
A note on color
Real holly berries are a glossy red, so cut the berries from glossy cardstock or shiny vinyl when you can. A small sheen on the berries makes the whole design look richer, even when everything else is matte.
