About this design
The Eight-Point North Star combines two sizes of point: four long rays reaching north, south, east and west, and four shorter rays on the diagonals, with a ring circling the center. The contrast between long and short rays gives it a twinkling, celestial quality, and the ring adds a navigational feel.
It is a refined, slightly more detailed alternative to the Compass Rose star, and it suits winter skies, nautical themes and elegant stationery.

Size and cutting tips
The narrow rays and the center ring mean this design needs about 4.5 inches to cut cleanly, and it looks best from 6 inches upward. Use a fresh blade and a slower cut speed on metallic cardstock.
Eight small openings sit inside the center ring between the rays. Weed them first, before the outer waste.
Step by step: a frosted window star
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 10 inches.
- Cut it from frosted (etched-glass) vinyl.
- Weed the eight small openings around the center first.
- Apply transfer tape and burnish well.
- Clean the window with glass cleaner and let it dry completely.
- Apply the star high on the glass and peel the transfer tape back flat against the window.
Good to know
Frosted vinyl looks white from inside and softly glowing from outside at night, a lovely effect for a winter window.
A note on meaning
A north star has long been a symbol of guidance and finding your way home, which makes this design a thoughtful choice for graduation cards, new-home gifts and remembrance ornaments as well as Christmas decor. Add a short line of your own beneath it to make the meaning personal.
Pairs well with
The Compass Rose Christmas Star is a bolder cousin, and the Snowflake Ring Wreath shares its wintry mood.
