About this design
The Ornament Cut-Out Christmas Tree comes already decorated. Its four tiers have gently drooping hems, like branches weighed down with snow, and seven round holes are scattered across the tree like baubles. A star and a trunk complete it, all in a single piece.
Because the ornaments are cut-outs, you can let a background color show through or fill them with small circles of glitter, sequins or contrasting vinyl.
Project ideas
- Glitter-filled ornaments. Cut the tree from green cardstock and glue glitter paper behind it.
- Light-up windows. Place it in a window so light shines through the ornaments.
- Kids’ sticker activity. Let children fill the holes with dot stickers.
- Felt advent tree. Cut from felt and add a button in each ornament hole.
- Shirts. On a red shirt, the fabric color becomes the ornaments.
Color ideas
The default color version is green with gold accents on the star and a brown trunk. To make the cut-outs sparkle:
- Green tree over red, gold and silver patterned paper
- White tree on a navy shirt so the ornaments read as navy
- Dark green tree over gold foil
- Pink tree over white for a pastel, retro look
Size and cutting tips
The seven cut-outs are a comfortable size, and the design passes our cut checks from about 2 inches tall. Weed the ornament holes first, then remove the outer waste.
For a layered color version, cut the tree once from green and seven small circles from other colors, then stick them into the holes from behind.
Step by step: a sparkly layered card
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 5 inches tall.
- Cut the tree from green cardstock.
- Cut a rectangle of gold glitter paper slightly larger than the tree.
- Glue the glitter paper behind the tree so it shows through the seven ornament holes.
- Trim the glitter paper flush with the tree outline.
- Mount the tree on a white card base with foam dots for a little depth, and add a short greeting below.
Good to know
The seven ornament holes are spread unevenly on purpose, the way decorations end up on a real tree, so the design looks hand-decorated rather than stamped. If you prefer a tidier look, you can delete individual holes in your cutting software before cutting; the tree stays a single clean piece either way. Kids especially enjoy choosing which “ornaments” to fill with which color.
