About this design

The Bauble Dot Christmas Tree is made entirely of circles. Twenty-one round baubles overlap in a triangle, one at the top, then two, then three, all the way to six across the bottom, and together they form the silhouette of a tree with a bubbly, scalloped outline. A star sits above and a trunk below.

It reads as a tree and as a pile of ornaments at the same time, which gives it a cheerful, modern-retro feel. In the default color version it is bright red, a fun change from the usual green.

Project ideas

  • Kids’ party shirts. A red or multicolor tree in iron-on is bright and playful.
  • Pom-pom crafts. Use it as a template and glue a pom-pom inside each circle.
  • Stickers. Print Then Cut stickers in bright colors for planners and kids.
  • Cupcake toppers. Cut small trees from glitter cardstock.
  • Modern ornaments. Laser-cut from colored acrylic for a retro look.

Color ideas

The default color version is red with a gold star and brown trunk. Other playful palettes:

  • Classic green with a gold star
  • Pink with a silver star for a retro, pastel Christmas
  • Teal with a gold star for a mid-century feel
  • White on a navy card for a snowball tree

Size and cutting tips

The circles overlap generously, so there are no thin joins: this tree passes our cut checks from 1.5 inches tall. It is excellent for felt, foam and glitter cardstock, and for children cutting with scissors from a printed template.

The tree and trunk are one piece, and the star is a second piece. Group them before resizing.

Step by step: a pom-pom tree card

  1. Download the outline SVG and size it to 5 inches tall.
  2. Use your machine’s pen tool to draw the outline on white cardstock, then cut the card to size.
  3. Glue a small pom-pom inside each circle, mixing red, green and gold.
  4. Add a gold glitter star at the top and a brown paper trunk.
  5. Let the glue set before putting the card in an envelope; a slightly deeper envelope or a small box protects the pom-poms in the mail.
  6. For a flat version, use colored dot stickers instead of pom-poms.

Good to know

Every circle in this tree is the same size, which makes it easy to fill with standard round stickers, sequins or buttons.

Pairs well with

The Polka Dot Bauble and the Berry Ring Wreath continue the round, bubbly theme.
