About this design
The Sawtooth Pine Tree is the most natural-looking tree in the collection. Its sides step down in six jagged teeth, each tier jutting out and tucking back in, so the outline looks like a real spruce or pine rather than a decorated Christmas tree. It has a narrow pointed tip, a broad base and a short trunk.
Because it has no star or ornaments, it works well beyond December: for cabins, camping, outdoor brands of your own, winter weddings and woodland nurseries.
Project ideas
- Camping and cabin shirts. Pair it with a destination name or a family surname.
- Forest scenes. Repeat it in three sizes along the bottom of a sign or a mug.
- Woodland nursery decals. Removable vinyl trees across a nursery wall.
- Stencils for kraft wrap. Dab white or gold paint for a snowy forest pattern.
- Laser-cut coasters. Engrave or cut it from wood for rustic coaster sets.
Color ideas
The default is a deep forest green with a brown trunk. For woodland palettes:
- Black on white or kraft for a classic silhouette
- White on dark green for a snowy forest
- Sage with a rust trunk for a muted, outdoorsy look
- Mixed greens across several trees for depth in a scene
Size and cutting tips
The sharp teeth are the narrowest part, so this design passes our cut checks from about 2.5 inches tall. For heat-transfer vinyl on shirts, 8 to 10 inches gives the jagged edges a strong, crisp look.
When weeding small sizes, use a hook to lift the waste out of each notch before peeling the rest; the inner corners can hold onto the backing.
Step by step: a cabin sign
- Cut a pine board to length, sand it and stain or whitewash it.
- Size the solid SVG to about two-thirds of the board’s height.
- Cut three copies at different sizes from removable vinyl to use as stencils, or cut them from permanent vinyl to stick directly.
- Arrange the trees along the bottom of the board, tallest in the middle, overlapping slightly like a forest edge.
- Add a family name or the cabin’s name above the trees in your own font.
- Seal painted designs with a clear matte coat if the sign will hang outdoors.
Good to know
With no star or ornaments, this pine stays seasonal rather than strictly festive, so a sign made in December can stay up all winter.
