About this design
The Classic Leaf Wreath with Bow is the wreath you hang on a front door. A ring sits at the core, and twenty-six pointed leaves are arranged around it, angled alternately in and out so the wreath looks full and natural rather than mechanical. A ribbon bow with loops and tails is tied at the bottom.
All the leaves and the bow are merged into the ring, so the solid file is a single piece with a large open center for a name, a monogram or a greeting.
Project ideas
- Door hangers. Cut from wood with the family name in the center.
- Christmas cards. “Merry Christmas” in your own font inside the wreath.
- Sweatshirts. A wreath around an initial in iron-on.
- Window decals. A wreath on each window, inside or out.
- Wreath stencils. Paint it on a canvas or a door mat.
Color ideas
The default color version uses a dark green ring, green leaves and a red bow. Other ideas:
- Sage leaves with a gold bow for a modern look
- White leaves with a silver bow for a winter wedding
- Two greens with a plaid-patterned bow (cut the bow from patterned HTV)
- All black for a minimal decal
Size and cutting tips
This wreath passes our cut checks from about 1.5 inches wide, so it even works as a small seal on envelopes. For door hangers, 12 to 18 inches in wood or foam board is ideal.
The bow loops are small cut-outs; weed them first. When adding text, center it with the wreath before cutting.
Step by step: a family name door hanger
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 16 inches.
- Cut it from 1/4-inch plywood on a laser, or trace it onto foam board and cut with a craft knife.
- Sand the edges and paint the wreath green, then paint the bow red.
- Cut the family name from wood or thick cardstock, sized to span the open center.
- Glue the name across the middle so it touches the ring on both sides.
- Seal everything with an outdoor clear coat and tie a wide ribbon at the top for hanging.
Good to know
The leaves alternate in and out, which breaks up the circle and stops the wreath from looking like a plain ring with spikes. That variation is what makes it feel hand-arranged even though every leaf is placed with precision.
Variations to try
- Paint the leaves in two greens for depth.
- Add small gold dots between the leaves as berries.
- Use the outline file with a pen tool for a line-art card.
Pairs well with
The Bow-Top Wreath is its counterpart with the bow at the top, and the Candy Cane Ring Wreath adds a candy-themed option.
