About this design
Some projects need a snowflake that simply cannot go wrong. The Bold Starburst Snowflake has the thickest arms in the collection, a single pair of fat, rounded branches on each arm and a solid hexagon center. Every end is rounded, so there are no sharp points to catch or tear.
It is the design to reach for with children, with thick materials, with very small sizes, or whenever you need dozens of snowflakes quickly. Its friendly, chunky shape also makes it look great as a bold graphic on its own.
Project ideas
- Kids’ crafts. Cut a pile from foam sheets or felt for children to decorate with glitter and sequins.
- Table confetti. Cut 1.5-inch flakes from metallic cardstock and scatter them on the table.
- Glitter iron-on. Thick glitter and flocked vinyl suit this design perfectly.
- Cupcake toppers. Cut 2-inch flakes from glitter cardstock and glue them to toothpicks.
- Stencils for kids. Make a reusable stencil for painting or sponge printing.
Color ideas
The default color version is a golden amber with a light gold inner layer, a warm alternative to icy blues. Other combinations:
- Bright white with silver for a classic snowflake
- Rainbow sets, one flake in each color, for kids’ party garlands
- Navy and white for a nautical winter look
- Red and green for a traditional Christmas pair
Size and cutting tips
This is the most forgiving snowflake in the library. It passes our cut checks from 1.5 inches wide, which makes it ideal for confetti, earrings and tags. It also handles thick materials such as felt, craft foam, chipboard and glitter cardstock that would tear a lacier design.
When cutting many small flakes at once, duplicate the design on the canvas and leave a quarter inch between each copy so the blade has room.
Step by step: kids’ foam snowflake ornaments
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 4 inches.
- Cut it from craft foam sheets, using your machine’s setting for foam or a deep-cut blade.
- Punch a hole near the tip of one arm.
- Set out glitter glue, sequins and stickers for children to decorate their own snowflake.
- Let the glue dry overnight, then thread a ribbon through the hole for hanging.
- Write each child’s name and the year on the back with a paint pen so the ornaments become keepsakes.
