About this design

The Modern Stacked Christmas Tree is a tree reduced to its simplest form. Six horizontal bars with fully rounded ends are stacked from shortest at the top to longest at the bottom, with even gaps between them. A round dot crowns the top instead of a star, and a slim trunk stands underneath.

The design is made of eight separate pieces on purpose; the gaps are part of the look. It feels calm and contemporary, a natural fit for Scandinavian and minimalist homes.

Project ideas

  • Minimal holiday cards. Sage bars on white cardstock with a gold dot.
  • Wooden block trees. Use it as a template for painted wood blocks of decreasing length.
  • Tumblers and water bottles. The bars wrap cleanly around a cylinder.
  • Felt advent calendars. Each bar can be a pocket or a row of numbers.
  • Stamp designs. Cut each bar from adhesive foam and mount them on a block.

Color ideas

The default sage with a gold dot and brown trunk is soft and modern. Other ideas:

  • An ombre from dark to light green, one color per bar
  • White bars on kraft for a Nordic look
  • Blush and gold for a feminine palette
  • Multicolor bars for a cheerful, kid-friendly version

Size and cutting tips

Each bar is chunky, so the pieces cut cleanly from 1.5 inches tall. The key to this design is spacing. Keep all eight pieces grouped in your cutting software when resizing, so the gaps scale evenly, and use transfer tape to apply vinyl in one go.

For iron-on, press the whole design under one sheet of carrier tape; the bars stay aligned exactly as cut.

Step by step: an ombre tumbler

  1. Download the solid SVG and size it to 3.5 inches tall to fit a 20 oz tumbler.
  2. Ungroup the six bars and give each a different shade of green, from dark at the bottom to light at the top.
  3. Cut each shade from permanent vinyl, then use transfer tape to pick up the bars in order.
  4. Clean the tumbler with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
  5. Apply the bars from the bottom up, lining each one up with the trunk, and burnish well.
  6. Add the gold dot topper last, and hand-wash the tumbler to keep the decal neat.
