About this design
The Scalloped Christmas Tree takes the classic tiered shape and softens every edge. Instead of pointed hems, each of its four tiers ends in a row of rounded scallops, more of them on each tier as the tree widens toward the bottom. A short trunk and a small five-point star finish it off.
The rounded edges give the tree a gentle, cartoon-like warmth. It looks like something from a picture book, which makes it a natural fit for children’s clothing, classroom crafts and cozy, homemade decor.

- Felt ornaments. The rounded edges cut beautifully from stiff felt; add sequin “lights”.

- Cookie and cake stencils. Cut from food-safe stencil plastic for dusting sugar onto treats.
- Bibs and burp cloths. A small tree in HTV for a baby’s first Christmas gift.
Color ideas
The default is classic green with a brown trunk and gold star. For softer, kid-friendly palettes:
- Mint green with a pink star
- Pastel blue with a silver star for a winter nursery
- Red with a white star for a candy-colored look
- Rainbow sets for a playful classroom garland
Size and cutting tips
This is one of the easiest trees to cut: it stays clean from about 1.5 inches tall, and the scallops have no sharp inner corners to catch the blade. That also makes it a good candidate for thick materials such as felt, craft foam and glitter cardstock.
When weeding vinyl, peel the waste upward along each scallop rather than across the tree, so the curves lift away smoothly.
Step by step: a stuffed felt ornament
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 4 inches.
- Cut two copies from stiff green felt; for a smoother cut, iron a stabilizer to the felt first and remove it afterward.
- Cut a star from gold glitter felt and a trunk from brown felt, using the color file’s layers as templates.
- Glue or stitch the star and trunk onto one tree.
- Blanket-stitch the two trees together around the edge with embroidery floss, leaving a small gap at the bottom.
- Push in a little stuffing, stitch the gap closed, and add a ribbon loop at the star.
