About this design

The Open Laurel Wreath is a classic frame shape. Two slender branches curve upward from the bottom, each lined with thirteen pointed leaves angled outward, and they stop short at the top, leaving the wreath open. A small cluster of three berries sits where the branches begin.

It feels elegant and a little formal, and it frames text beautifully, especially a single word, a name or a year.

Project ideas

  • Wedding and anniversary signs. Initials and the date inside the laurel.
  • Christmas cards. A short greeting inside the open wreath.
  • Monogram napkins. A small laurel with an initial in iron-on.
  • Certificates and place cards. An elegant frame for names.
  • Engraved ornaments. A laurel and a year on a wood slice.

Color ideas

The default color version uses sage stems, light green leaves and red berries. Other ideas:

  • All gold for a formal look
  • Dark green with white berries for a winter wedding
  • Silver leaves on navy for an elegant card
  • Black for a minimal monogram

Size and cutting tips

The slender stems and leaves need room, so this wreath passes our cut checks from about 2.5 inches wide. The berry cluster is a separate small piece; keep the design grouped when resizing.

For text inside, use a font weight that matches the slim leaves; heavy fonts can overwhelm the wreath.

Step by step: an anniversary sign

  1. Download the solid SVG and size it to 10 inches wide.
  2. Cut it from gold permanent vinyl or gold glitter cardstock.
  3. Add the couple’s initials in the center in a classic serif font and the year beneath them.
  4. Apply the laurel and text to a white wood board or a canvas.
  5. Frame the board or hang it with a ribbon.
  6. Give it as a December wedding or anniversary gift.

Good to know

Open laurel wreaths have been used as symbols of honor and celebration since ancient times, which is why they suit milestones such as weddings, anniversaries and graduations so naturally.

Variations to try

  • Use green leaves with white berries for a winter wedding.
  • Engrave it on a wood slice ornament with a year.
  • Cut it in silver on a navy card for a formal invitation.

A note on balance

The two branches mirror each other exactly, so text centered between them always looks balanced, even before you measure.

Pairs well with

The Minimal Ring Wreath and the Crescent Half Wreath share its open, airy style.
