About this design

The Pine Needle Wreath looks like a wreath made from freshly cut fir or pine. A thick ring is covered with ninety-six short, rounded needles angled along the ring in alternating directions, so the outline bristles with texture like real evergreen boughs.

There are no bows or berries, just greenery, which makes it perfect for rustic, cabin and farmhouse styles and lets you add your own accents.

Project ideas

  • Cabin and farmhouse signs. A pine wreath around a family name on a wood board.
  • Kraft wrapping paper. Stencil it in white or green paint.
  • Laser-engraved coasters. The needles engrave with lovely texture.
  • Shirts. A green wreath around a year or location.
  • Wreath with your own bow. Add a real fabric bow to a wood cut-out.

Color ideas

The default color version uses a dark green ring with lighter green needles. Other ideas:

  • White on kraft for a snowy, rustic look
  • Black on white for a minimal print
  • Sage and cream for a soft, Scandinavian style
  • Gold needles on dark green for an elegant card

Size and cutting tips

The needles are short and narrow, so this wreath passes our cut checks from about 2.5 inches wide, and the texture shows best from 4 inches upward. For wood or foam board door hangers, 12 inches or more keeps the needles sturdy.

Weed vinyl slowly around the needles, pulling the waste around the ring rather than across it.

Step by step: a rustic sign with a bow

  1. Cut a square pine board and stain it a warm brown.
  2. Download the solid SVG and size it to two-thirds of the board’s width.
  3. Cut it from removable vinyl and weed the wreath out to make a stencil.
  4. Apply the stencil, burnish the edges of the needles and paint the wreath dark green.
  5. Peel the stencil while the paint is slightly wet.
  6. Tie a real plaid or burlap bow and staple it to the bottom of the wreath.

Good to know

Real fabric bows add texture and movement that a cut bow cannot, and they are easy to swap between seasons.

Variations to try

  • Paint the needles white for a snowy wreath.
  • Add a family name inside in your own font.
  • Engrave it on round wood coasters.

A note on texture

Engraved on wood, every needle catches the light slightly differently, so this design looks especially rich on a laser.

Pairs well with

The Pine Sprig Snowflake and the Sawtooth Pine Tree complete a woodland set.
