About this design
The Lace Ring Snowflake has the softness of a crocheted doily. Each arm ends in a small open ring, the main branches finish in round dots, and a shorter pair of branches sits near the tip. At the heart of the design, a wide ring with six spokes leaves a pattern of small windows, the most lace-like detail in the collection.
The rings and dots give it a rounded, gentle character that suits weddings, baby’s first Christmas keepsakes and anything with a vintage feel.
Project ideas
- Winter wedding stationery. Use it as a seal on envelopes or a motif on place cards, cut from pearl cardstock.
- Baby’s first Christmas ornaments. Layer it on a clear acrylic disc with a name and year.
- Lace-style window art. Cut it from white cardstock at 6 inches and hang several in a window with fishing line.
- Foil or pen drawing. The outline style traces beautifully with a fine metallic pen.
- Frosted mirror decals. Etched-glass vinyl on a bathroom or hallway mirror is a subtle seasonal touch.
Color ideas
The default palette is slate gray with a pale silver top layer, a soft, wintry pairing. For other moods try:
- White on white in two finishes (matte base, glitter top) for wedding decor
- Blush pink and white for a baby girl’s keepsake, or pale blue and white for a boy
- Gold and ivory for a vintage Christmas card
- Deep red and cream for a Scandinavian-style ornament
Size and cutting tips
This is one of the finer designs in the library. The rings and center windows need about 3.5 inches to cut and weed comfortably, and the design looks its best between 4 and 8 inches. Use a fresh blade and slow your machine down if it allows.
The small windows in the center ring are the trickiest part to weed. Use a sharp hook and lift each window from its edge rather than stabbing the middle, or cut in cardstock where the waste simply falls away.
Step by step: a baby’s first Christmas keepsake
- Download the color SVG and size it to 4 inches.
- Cut the base from blush or pale blue pearl cardstock and the top layer from white.
- Glue the layers together and let them dry flat under a book.
- Write or vinyl the baby’s name and year on a small acrylic disc.
- Glue the snowflake to the front of the disc and thread ribbon through one of the ring tips to hang it.
