About this design
The Harlequin Diamond Bauble takes its pattern from the classic harlequin diamond motif. Rows of small diamond shapes are cut out across the middle of the ball, staggered like a lattice, while the top and bottom of the ornament stay plain. A cap and loop sit on top. In the color version, two thin gold bands frame the diamond pattern.
It feels refined and a little theatrical, perfect for elegant trees and sophisticated cards.

Size and cutting tips
This bauble passes our cut checks from about 2 inches tall, though the diamonds weed most easily from 3 inches. Weed the diamond cut-outs row by row before removing the outer waste.
On a laser, the diamonds cut quickly and cleanly; back the ornament with a contrasting veneer for a two-tone effect.
Step by step: a black and gold party ornament
- Download the color SVG and size it to 4 inches tall.
- Cut the body from black cardstock and the accent bands and cap from gold foil cardstock.
- Weed the diamond cut-outs carefully, lifting each from a point.
- Back the body with a second piece of gold foil so the diamonds shine gold.
- Glue the gold bands above and below the diamond band.
- Add a black ribbon loop and hang several together for a New Year’s tree.
Good to know
The diamond band sits across the widest part of the ball, the same place a painted decoration would go on a glass ornament.
Variations to try
- Back the diamonds with mirror paper for extra sparkle.
- Fill alternate diamonds with red and gold paper for a true harlequin pattern.
- Cut it from felt for a soft, sewn ornament.
