About this design
The Snowflake Window Bauble combines two favorite motifs. A round ornament with a cap and loop has a six-point snowflake cut out of its center, so the snowflake becomes a window. Hang it in front of the tree lights and the snowflake glows; glue it over glitter paper and the snowflake sparkles.
In the color version, a pale blue outline frames the snowflake, giving it a frosted edge against the navy body.
Project ideas
- Light-catching ornaments. Laser-cut from wood so the tree lights shine through.
- Layered cardstock. Back the window with silver glitter paper.
- Window decorations. Hang several in a window for a snowfall effect.
- Shirts. The fabric color fills the snowflake.
- Gift toppers. Tie one to a present with silver ribbon.
Color ideas
The default color version is navy with a light blue snowflake edge and a silver cap. Other ideas:
- Red with a white edge for a classic look
- Ice blue with a white edge for a frosty tree
- Gold with a white edge for an elegant style
- White wood backed with blue glitter paper
Size and cutting tips
This bauble passes our cut checks from about 2 inches tall, though the snowflake detail is clearest from 3 inches up. Weed the snowflake window carefully: lift its arms from the center outward.
For laser cutting, 3 mm plywood at 4 inches gives a sturdy ornament with a crisp snowflake.
Step by step: a glowing wood ornament
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 4 inches tall.
- Cut it from 3 mm birch plywood on a laser.
- Lightly sand the edges and the inside of the snowflake window.
- Glue a circle of translucent vellum or thin frosted acrylic behind the window.
- Paint or stain the front and seal it.
- Hang it on the tree directly in front of a light so the snowflake glows from behind.
Good to know
The snowflake inside is built like the larger snowflakes in our collection, with six arms and paired branches, so it matches if you decorate with both.
Variations to try
- Fill the window with a circle of iridescent film for a rainbow shimmer.
- Cut it from white felt and back it with blue felt for a soft, child-safe ornament.
- Use the outline file with a foil tool for an elegant card.
