About this design
The Tree Cut-Out Disc Ornament is a flat round ornament with a two-tier Christmas tree and trunk cut out of its center, so the tree appears as a window in the disc. A cap and loop sit on top, ready to hang. In the color version, a thin gold ring runs just inside the edge of the disc.
It has the clean, modern look of laser-cut ornaments, and it works beautifully in wood, acrylic and layered cardstock.
Project ideas
- Laser-cut wood ornaments. Light shines through the tree on the branches.
- Mirror acrylic ornaments. The tree reflects when backed with mirror.
- Layered cardstock. Back the tree window with glitter or patterned paper.
- Gift tags. Write a name below the tree.
- Coaster sets. Without the cap, the disc works as a coaster design.
Color ideas
The default color version is green with a gold ring and cap. Other ideas:
- Natural wood backed with green glitter
- Red backed with gold for a festive ornament
- White backed with silver for a frosty look
- Navy backed with gold for an elegant tree
Size and cutting tips
This ornament passes our cut checks from about 2 inches tall. The tree window is large and easy to weed. For wood ornaments, 3.5 to 4 inches is a good size.
When cutting acrylic or wood, cut the inside tree first, then the outline, to keep the piece steady on the bed.
Step by step: a mirrored acrylic ornament
- Download the solid SVG and size it to 3.5 inches tall.
- Cut it from 3 mm green acrylic on a laser.
- For the plain disc, open the solid SVG again and keep only the outer edge (Cricut: Contour › Hide All Contours; Silhouette: Release Compound Path and delete the inner shapes), then cut it from gold mirror acrylic.
- Glue the green disc onto the mirror disc with a clear acrylic adhesive, lining up the caps.
- The tree now shines gold through the cut-out.
- Add a ribbon through the loop.
Good to know
Because the tree is cut out rather than added, the disc keeps a clean, flat edge that is comfortable to handle and hard to break, which makes it a good choice for children’s ornaments.
Variations to try
- Back the tree with a family photo for a personalized keepsake.
- Engrave the year in the space below the tree.
- Cut a set in red, green and gold for gift toppers.
